Knee Pain
Knee pain is a regular daily complaint we see as Osteopaths here at Governing Function whether it be due to sporting injury or age-related degenerative changes. The knee is commonly injured due to being one of the major weight-bearing joints of the body. Knee pain can have several different causes and can be painful and debilitating.
Usually, when we are experiencing knee pain it is due to a compensation of the ankle or hip joint. This tells us that the muscles around the knee are overworking to compensate for something elsewhere.
Our priority is to identify the root cause of pain and determine if there is true structural damage to the surrounding tissues including the muscles, bones, ligaments, joints, and cartilage. Without the presence of any true structural “Damage” pain is attributed to the compensatory solution the Brain and Nervous System have created.
At Governing Function, we will assess you through a full series of testing including:
- Posture Analysis
- Joint Range of Motion (Active + Passive examination)
- Neurological Testing
- Orthopaedic Testing
- Manual Muscle Testing
From this, we will be able to structure a tailored treatment and exercise plan to get you back to a pain-free life doing the things you love. Manual therapy will be utilised alongside dietary advice and a specifically tailored exercise plan which will help to restore the Knees function and strengthen the relevant surrounding tissues to stop this problem from returning.
